Knowing Him - Part 2 - The Son

In this short series, “Knowing Him” we will look at the Father, Son, & Spirit of God.

Last time we focused on The Father, this time we will focus on The Son. Throughout the stories of Jesus in the Bible we probably follow up with what or why. At least when I was new to learning about Jesus, I did and sometimes still do, but then again I ask myself, my family, and others around me those two little questions over far less complex or significant things all the time and hardly ever get an answer or understand.

I think what can make Jesus more relatable is seeing the choice that He made throughout His story here on earth. God in flesh with free will to live and do radical things. I believe He was radical, just not in ways anyone expected Him to be.

Reveal: It is hard for most to fathom how someone could be God and enter and live life the way Jesus did, 2 Corinthians 8:9 “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.” But how & why He did, is why it is so great for us! Trusting the word of God, that the Bible is inherent & infallible we can believe it’s words and know He was the savior born to us Jesus Christ Son of God and also referred to as Immanuel which means God with us.

Looking at the miracles Jesus did during His life it would be hard to believe anything but. However the miracles were part of the context and story. If we only look at the what we miss a lot that He had intended for everyone to see, relate and learn. These miracles weren’t just testimony to show He was God and our savior, but to show His character and love, to have ways to relate to Him and those He was with and try to replicate in our own lives.

Revise: Replicating is a challenge but let’s look at how we can relate first. I know if I can’t relate, I loose the mindset needed to replicate. Life is HARD! I think we all can agree. A lot of emotions, growing pains, challenges, and ultimately uncertainty. So let’s remove the uncertainty of the relatability of Jesus.

Knowing our God has been where we are, or have been, and understands what we are going through. We never have to feel alone. These examples start from the very begging. I think it is natural to think God would come to earth in a much different way than being born in an animals food dish but He didn’t. He was and is the King of all but was not a King in the sense the world relates people to that word. He could have but He humbled himself from the very beginning.

He knew and trusted that is father would provide everything He would need. This can be hard for us because in today’s mindset and culture if we look at what we think our needs are, we probably see they are really exalted wants. I know I personally struggle with this. Growing up with very little, it is easy to assign wants as needs. But looking back I can see many blessings from God a long the way. It is hard for me to separate aspirations from needs and knowing I don’t need to maintain those aspirations.

As the story of Jesus continues I think we loose sight of His humbleness and other things He wants us to see. “God is in the details”. It may be easy to see God but I think we sometimes fail to see someone who is constantly discriminated against and doubted by a lot of people. We don’t alway see His experience of loss & sadness, John 11:35. We see Him have anger and frustration John 2:13-15. We see Him struggle with stress and anxiety Luke 22:42-44. What do we experience or go through that He hasn’t? There are so many more examples than the above and I hope you read the New Testament to see and learn more.

Revive: Remember Philippians 2:5-8 encouraging us to have an attitude like Jesus. Be in the word, be in prayer, be in the body of believers to encourage one another and know we are growing in our faiths and righteousness in Jesus Christ. We are not alone, we are born into the body of Christ and believers. You are not alone for Jesus Christ the Son of God who humbled himself beyond being human but to serve and sacrifice for us. We are very far from alone and can lean into to not only get us and others through our journey in life but strengthen our relationship with our savior and help us grow.
