Knowing Him - Part 3 - The Spirit

In this short series, “Knowing Him” we will look at the Father, Son, & Spirit of God.

We spent some time talking about our Father and Jesus. Now as we close out this short series let’s take a look at who the Holy Spirit is and also how the Spirit works within us and for us.

Throughout the Bible we hear of people receiving the Spirit of God, learn who the Spirit is, and the role the Spirit plays for everyone! There are two key words I would like to reveal, revise, & revive in how we see and welcome the Spirit. The words are gift(s) and witness. So, let’s R3TALK about knowing Him!

Reveal: John 14:16-17 speaks to the Holy Spirit. That he is a helper to be with us forever and will abide in us. He is the Spirit of truth! The Spirit is our witness. Our helper and teacher, shared in John 14:25-27. The Spirit does not only bring us truth but so much more. 1Corinthians 12 speaks to the gifts of the Spirit and though there are many gifts that they are all by the same Spirit and that no gift greater than the other, but we are uniquely gifted and from those gifts we are to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ our savior leading those around us to Him.

Revise: Knowing the Holy Spirit is our witness of truth; we need to understand that the truth He brings is for our good. Anything negative we hear or think from these truths are not from the Holy Spirit. I know I personally struggle with this. I let the voice of the enemy distort what I hear from God. It is like a bad game of telephone in kindergarten where you start with one word or saying and end up with something completely different at the end. Don’t let His message change.

James 1:16-17 reminds us that all good gifts come from our Father. Gifts being our talents, material things, relationships, opportunities, experiences, and even our character and mindset. Galatians 5:22-23 tells us the fruit of the Spirit which I believe are gifts for us to enjoy and share. By these fruits we are able to show who our Lord is and be the light in our community. Nothing speaks louder than ones character that defies what our world around us thinks it should be in hard or trying times.

Revive: Galatians 5:16 “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.” The more we lean into the Spirit the more we will hear the truths we need to hear. The more we are one with the Spirit, the more we will be able to bare these fruits, use and share these gifts, and find our unique identity in Christ our savior! Praise the good, hear the truth in love, and embrace the Spirit of God in all situations as he is your strength and ALWAYS with you.

R3TALK about it with people you know and share your thoughts and what you and others might have gained from the discussion. Please join the community by subscribing to know when new content is published or new events are scheduled.

Have a blessed day!
