New Year, New View?
Going into a new year usually comes with new goals and these goals usually focus on ourselves and bettering ourselves in one way or another. One way I hope going into this new year is that we all can have a new focus or view. Are you looking at the small stuff? Are you looking in the past? Where and what is your focus on?
Last year while thinking through topics to write about I jotted the quick note below, which was later all over social media pinned by Jelly Roll at the CMA’s. Telling everyone “The windshield is bigger than the review for a reason, because what’s in front of you is so much more important than what’s behind you.” AGREED!
Reveal: A lot of times we find ourselves focusing on our path and letting it hold us where we are. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” We need to remember that our past and the things we do, do not define us when we are in Christ! We are saved and redeemed by His blood and the grace of God. We are cloaked in His righteousness and His sacrifice was made for all our sins; past, present, and future and we are able to seek forgiveness and repentance. Break those chains!
Revise: There are two key versus I try to live by and keep in mind. One focused on it being the process and goal and that I am not alone in my struggles.
Philippians 3:13-14 “Brethren, I do not regard myself as having not laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 7:15 “For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate.”
This a process! We will have setbacks or moments of feeling stuck or not being enough. We are guaranteed these struggles and challenges, but we must stay focused and press ahead and pull those around us with us! We are not alone!
Revive: It’s not about perfection, it’s about the progression. We need to grow into who He created us to be. The only attitude is gratitude! Knowing this is a journey and we are not alone! Not only did those in the bible experience what we come against but those arounds us do as well. We are meant to be in community with one another and help each other find Jesus and grow into a character that resembles His.
Hebrews 13:16 “And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”
Galatians 6:2 “Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.”
I hope this helps you feel less isolated and more motivated to press on and reach out!
